Why use the Art Feng Shui for Your Space?

Our environments are a reflection of our life. As Katie Rogers, founder of Katie Rogers Feng Shui states "When a person can understand that their environment is reflecting their life in a deep way, then they are usually more willing to make the changes."

Feng Shui helps people get to the source of their psychological issues by way of their stuff and décor, and then work through them by implementing design techniques and Feng Shui cures.

"Change the space, change your subconscious patterns, I say. So, in general, I help people live more fulfilling lives!” Katie Rogers.

Feng Shui Bedroom Hint #1: It's all about your bed.

Your bed is the most important piece of furniture that you own. We all know that sleep is the most important thing we can do for our health, success and mental sanity and your bed supports your sleep.

Feng Shui Bedroom Headboard:

In Feng Shui a bed with a strong headboard is important. The bed is should represent strength and support for your life. We know the strongest of homes are built within a mountain as they have the strength of the mountain to support them. The same is true of beds. Those beds with strong headboards are protecting you and your energy as you sleep.

Feng Shui Bedroom Bed:

The best Feng Shui beds are made of wood and contain little metal. Wood element has the energy of a healthy, growing tree and is a warm element. Wheras, metal has the energy of refinement, logic and decisiveness that make it easier to navigate life. Metal's qualities of being focused and structured are better for a business or workspace than your bedroom which should optimize for relaxation.

Under Your Bed:

Feng Shui is all about the energy flow around a space. Therefore, if you have items under your bed (yes, it's a great storage space) but it is not conducive to enabling the energy to freely flow within your space. It is advised to not have items under your bed.

Feng Shui Bedroom Layout:

For optimal Feng Shui bedroom layout, the bed should be placed against a solid wall. Again, similar to the logic around the headboard, the solid wall grounds the energy above your head while you sleep. In addition, the bed should not be directly in line with a door or opening or with it's back to a window.

Direction to Place Your Bed:

The direction in which you face can support your intentions in life. To determine your best direction, first figure out your KUA number. Then based on this KUA number decide what is the priority for at this time, love, wealth, growth or health. For example, a KUA number of 7 whom is looking to maximize their growth potential would place the bed facing the west direction. Therefore, when you are sitting up on your bed you are looking west.

Feng Shui Bedroom Hint #2: Mirrors

Mirrors are not advised in a bedroom for good Feng Shui. Mirrors are thought to bounce energy around the bedroom, which may result in restlessness. They're also said to amplify worries. It's especially important not to hang a mirror on the wall opposite your bed. If you need a mirror in your bedroom, place it behind a closet door.

Feng Shui Bedroom Hint #2: Chandeliers, beams and fans.

Chandaliers, beams and fans are considered in Feng Shui heavy elements. They can be beneficial for a room but only when placed correctly. If your room is dark or dull, a chandelier will easily bring the chi of the room up.

Make sure to not hang a chandelier over the bed as this is not recommended. A chandelier directly over your bed will be heavy energy. If you cannot move the bed to a different location then the best bet is to place a canopy over the bed or use a smaller flush-mount style here.

Feng Shui Bedroom Hint #3: Colors

The best Feng Shui bedroom colors are soft, relaxing, skin tones. That said, the color of your room depends on you and your goals for this bedroom. To help you out there are a few colors that you should definitely avoid.

“Never [use] blue for any bedroom, as it's connected to the water element and can overwhelm and create an emotional imbalance.” Elizabeth Barnes, founder of Feng Shui Dreams UK.

It's generally best to avoid and Yang Feng Shui bedroom colors. (Strong red, orange, yellow.)

"A mild yellow is great as a Feng Shui bedroom color as it promotes effective communication, health and focus." Frankie Jackson.

Feng Shui Bedroom Hint #4: Artwork

The artwork you place within your room should match with your intentions. Sad, lonely, scary or dark images should not be in your bedroom. In addition, family photos can stay out of your bedroom. A photo of your loved one and kids are fine.

Thus, the artwork in your bedroom should match with the colors that you choose for your space and be soothing/relaxing such as landscapes, flowers, nature, friendly animals or people. Chinese auspicious items include the mystical knot, birds, red peonies, and the double happiness symbol.

Feng Shui Bedroom Hint #5: Water Features

In Feng Shui, water features are actually a good thing. Water features usually aid the flow of energy, BUT, the bedroom is one place where you should avoid it. Do not display a water feature, any imagery of water in artwork, mirrors, or even a predominantly blue color scheme that alludes to water. Water cools fire, which can douse the passion you likely hope to find in a bedroom.
