1. What are some things to take into consideration when picking a cabinet supplier for a project?

I like to evaluate my millworkers based on past relationships, recommendations and of course the budget, timeline and scale of the project. I tend to incline towards keeping all sub-contracting with the same general contractor, so they are incentivized to find solutions and make everything work.

Quality is my top priority. Even if one cabinet source is more costly than another, if the latter does not meet high standards, the homeowner eventually pays in time, aggravation, and labor for replacement and repairs.

Style options, wood species, and finishes are all very important as well. In addition, I like to know what types of warranties and customer service each company offers.

2. Thoughts on painting existing cabinets?

Definitely an option! I’ve had many projects that have opted for either painting or refinishing existing cabinetry. Especially if it comes down to cost and not wanting to undergo a full renovation. It’s certainly a great way to refresh on a budget!

I’ve had past projects where we’ve painted dated wood stain cabinets in a gloss white and added updated hardware. It makes for a great transformation: much cleaner, whiter, brighter, and contemporary.

Make sure to hire a professional to paint the cabinets - it will be worth it. DIY never ever sticks.

3. Favorite kitchen cabinet or wall colors?

White is an absolute favorite. But I do like using grays and blues in the base. Some of the specific colors I have used:

Benjamin Moore - Chantilly Lace

Chantilly lace is a classic and one of the most popular paint colors by Benjamin Moore. This color for cabinets or your kitchen walls will be timeless.

Benjamin Moore -  Coventry Grey

Coventry grey by Benjamin Moore is a beautiful soft grey that compliments a dark or light floor.

Benjamin Moore - Gray Owl

Grey owl is a lighter tone and shade than coventry grey by Benjamin Moore. If you don't want a super grey look go with grey owl. You can add white to this paint too to lighten it up even more.

Farrow & Ball - Dimpse

This is a beautiful grey color that can be perfect for a modern kitchen.
